How I Help Clients
Having to face up to a cancer diagnosis at any point in your life is challenging and my diagnosis came during lockdown. Navigating treatment plans, consultations and the highs and lows of the patient experience. Dealing with medical staff, psychologists, nutritionists, art therapy, community charities I became aware what is out there . Keeping fit was essential and made me understand the importance of really being heard and seen. My aim is to bring hope and motivation on this path.
Client Philosophy
I personally know cancer is not one size fits all so I look at the approach of both mind and body. From movement being medicine to the unique difficulties at every stage before, during and beyond that cancer brings. My unique approach and personality will hopefully put you at ease and to know that someone just gets you will make you feel comfortable.
Why Choose Me
My experience of mentoring with individuals and families.I will listen and hear what you are saying and signpost you to the services that will help you.
Success story
From my own personal experience with breast cancer, I learnt the power of using creativity in all its forms to support myself during my cancer journey during lockdown. This resulted in my own art exhibition and by working with Arts for Health. The “Lady lump and Lockdown “collection can be seen along the Cancer Centre linked corridor of Milton Keynes University Hospital.
In Penny’s words: “This collection of 'Lady Lump and Lockdown' came about after my own diagnosis of cancer during 2020. Being creative is something I have always liked doing and being wrapped up in nature became a huge pull for me. I had time to stand and take it all in and I used that time to really look around me. I am not an artist in the sense of the words... more of a woman who hopes this helps one person not to feel isolated and to bring a little understanding to others. If I do that then job done.” [Penny Mitchell] https://artsforhealthmk.org.uk/Penny-Mitchell
My goal was to bring understanding and if one person walks down this hospital corridor and feels not so alone I have achieved a connection and that in my eyes is success.
Previous Role.. “ Since the lockdown when my cancer diagnosis took me down a very different path I have looked very differently at areas of my life. My involvement with the cancer community has grown and I have continued supporting it online, both locally and in America. My voice has been shared on local and hospital radio and I have written several blogs . I have always been passionate about bringing people together and networking even before cancer and now I understand how I can use these skills and insights in empowering others experiencing cancer .
